Website Updates

When you build a website, you have to realize it’s an ongoing process that will require periodic website updates. If your website design and information on your web site is out of date, the customer, or potential customer may not follow through with contacting you. This is especially important if your website design contains extra features such as events, calendars, or links. Keep in mind that customers will use your site to get information. If they believe your information is old or stale, they’ll stop going to your site, and even worse, check out your competitor’s site.

Another issue you will run into if you don’t perform website updates regularly is that search engines will eventually stop crawling your website, which is not a good thing. Web crawlers eventually visit all web pages and record the main features, text, and pictures of that page. If the page has an old date for its last save, the web crawler will assume that you don’t do website updates and then put those pages off for a year or possibly longer before it crawls your web pages again.

Minor Updates
Send us an email itemizing your website updates and please be as descriptive as possible. You can also attach photos to your email but realize that your email provider may limit the size of the file to around 5 MB (megabytes) per email. That means that you may only be able to send a couple of photos at a time.

Submitting Website Updates

Email your website updates directly to our office. When sending your email make sure you list the specific page name and what specifically you want to change on that page. Please number each of the changes so we make sure we complete all the edits requested. You can enter that information directly into your email or you can send as a MS-Word file attachment, whatever you are more comfortable using. If you are sending a picture, make sure you label the picture with a descriptive file name and let us know where specifically you want the picture. Otherwise we will place that picture where we believe it will be best showcased.

When sending photographs/pictures for us to edit on your web page(s), make sure the overall file size is no more than 5 MB in size. To display the size of your photo: open up the folder that lists your file, right click your mouse over that file and left click your mouse on "Properties". This will display the size of your file. If you are still not sure of the file size, just send 1 or 2 photos per email. If you have multiple pictures, and you prefer to send us your edits by mail, you have two options.
• Create a Word document and list all the text edits, detailing the changes and burn that Word file and any pictures on a CD. Then mail the CD to our office.
or
• Old school way – go to the web page you want to edit then select file then print for each page you want to edit. Once printed go ahead and correct those pages with your pen or pencil then fax us the pages you want edited. If you want pictures changed you will still need to email or mail those pictures to us.

Major Website Updates or Website Design Overhaul/Re-Design

As with most products or services, most website designs have a specific lifetime range. With websites it is generally between 3 and 5 years. That timeline is driven by cost, design look, search engine friendliness of your website design, how advanced your competitors’ websites are designed and personal opinion. Call us for an analysis of your website design so we can move forward with your changes.
